Online Community for Entrepreneurs Finds New Home

Space Investment Summit, Chicago, IL (May 26, 2010) – The International Association of Space Entrepreneurs (“IASE”), an online community focused on promoting global entrepreneurship in space ventures, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with the Space Frontier Foundation to turn over ownership and active management of its web properties.

“This is an exciting time for IASE and for space entrepreneurs around the world,” explained IASE founder and chairman Guillermo Söhnlein.  “We originally started IASE with the hope that eventually one or more of the larger and longer established space organizations would focus on supporting entrepreneurs, and Space Frontier Foundation has clearly taken a leadership role in this regard.  We are genuinely delighted to hand off stewardship of our online resources to such a dedicated and professional organization, which we know will take it to the next level.”

For the past few years, IASE has been building a number of online properties aimed at helping space-focused entrepreneurs across the globe connect, communicate, and collaborate with each other.  These include a proprietary social network (www.spaceentrepreneurs.org), as well as Facebook, LinkedIn, and other groups.  Effective immediately, the Space Frontier Foundation will take over ownership and management of all IASE properties.

“Given our long-standing support of the space entrepreneur community, we are pleased to add IASE’s online communities to our growing set of offerings focused on helping entrepreneurs,” said Space Frontier Foundation executive director Will Watson.  “This is a strategically significant deal for us, because it allows us to supplement our various offline resources with online components.”

The Space Frontier Foundation plans to dedicate considerable resources to evolving the former IASE properties by adding functionality, expanding geographic reach, recruiting new members, and increasing community activity.  It will also tie in the online community closely with its existing events, conferences, business plan competitions, and other offline resources for entrepreneurs.  In particular, the Foundation will leverage its partnerships with student groups, such as the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (“SEDS”) to actively engage entrepreneurship-minded youth.

Under the terms of the agreement, IASE will also transfer ownership of its brand and various logos, as it winds down operations as an independent entity.

How realistic is this notion. People belong on earth and billions are spent on activities like this when there is a global crisis – people are living in poverty without shelter.. I don't understand!

This particular piece really did switch the light on for me as far as this specific subject goes. But at this time there is one factor I am not really too comfortable with and whilst I try to reconcile that with the core theme of your position, allow me see exactly what the rest of the visitors have to say.Very well done.

It seems like any real return on investment for space exploration is quite a ways off. I imagine more entrepreneurs would be investing for the clout and reputation they'd receive by association than anything (from a business perspective).

What about the differences in skill intensities across industries? The job losses in the relatively unskilled-labor intensive battery industry should have little effect on the relatively skilled-labor intensive machinery
