Former Space Shuttle Commander to Join Chair of the House Subcommittee on Space and Science at Foundation Annual Conference

October 8, 2003 Press Releases

Los Angeles, October 8, 2003 – Richard Searfoss, retired Air Force Colonel and former Space Shuttle Commander will address the 12th annual Space Frontier Foundation conference on Saturday, October 11th. Also speaking at the conference will be the Honorable Dana Rorhabacher, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Space and Science.

The speeches will take place at the Space Frontier Foundation’s annual conference “Alt.Space 2003″ to be held October 10-12 at the Sheraton Four Points hotel in Los Angeles.

“There are alternatives to massive, money wasting Government space programs,” stated Tony DeTora, the Executive Director of the Space Frontier Foundation. “It’s time for America to do what it does best; encourage entrepreneurs to open new frontiers…especially in space.”

The same people involved in putting Dennis Tito in space will join other experts at the conference to discuss rocket vehicles, space colonies, colonies on Mars, Moon bases, killer asteroids and hotels in space.

“Since the Columbia tragedy, we seem to be at a stand-still in efforts to explore and open outer space,” said conference organizer James George. “It’s time to shake ourselves off and get back in the game. There are a number of companies working every day to bring the average citizen closer to living and working in space. They’ll be at this conference and people need to come see them and what they’re up to.”

With support from groups such as the Space Access Society and the California Space Authority, the conference will feature companies like Orbital Recovery, XCOR Aerospace, Constellation Services International, MirCorp and Pioneer Aerospace.
