Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Gagarin's Flight with the Founders of Yuri's Night in LA

April 9, 2011 Press Releases

These Two Events will be a Highlight of the World’s Space Party

The Yuri’s Night celebrations will continue on the west coast with two amazing events. On April 12, 2011 in Los Angeles, take part in this historic, global celebration of the people who launched humanity into the cosmos with a trip to Griffith Observatory followed by a swanky party at the Wood And Vine bar. The leaders of the next generation of spaceflight will be in attendance to share their memories of the space race and hopes for the future. With over 400 Yuri’s Night events occurring around the globe, you definitely want to take part! Details on the party are below.

Start your evening with a free event at Griffith Observatory’s where to astronomical observer Anthony Cook will describe Yuri Gagarin’s historic 108 minute orbit and how this momentous achievement still affects us today. After honoring the 50th anniversary of Gagarin’s flight, Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides will carry the momentum forward with a description of how space travel might change in the coming 50 years. Whitesides, fellow Yuri’s Night co-founder Loretta Hidalgo-Whitesides, and attendees will then share their “Where were you?” stories.

Follow the inspiring Observatory trip with a rocking after-party hosted by InSpace Media/Subtractive, the 62 Mile Club, and the Space Frontier Foundation at the hot new bar Wood and Vine in Hollywood. Toast to Gagarin with the signature drink, the “Cosmo-Naut”, with the founders of Yuri’s Night and enjoy the tunes of DJ Professor LaCroix. If the awe of 50 years of spaceflight isn’t enough to blow your mind, the visuals brought to you by Ryan Stuit of Subtractive will. Make sure to reserve your spot on our Facebook page so we’re sure to have enough glow sticks and Yuri’s Night tattoos!
