NewSpace 2014 will be the premier gathering for space industry leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, students, and young professionals, providing an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in commercial space sector. The Space Frontier Foundation is delighted to announce that this year’s conference will host Congresswoman Donna Edwards as a keynote speaker to discuss the future of commercial space exploration and development. Edwards plays a pivotal role in the development of space policy, and will share her unique experiences and insights with this year’s NewSpace audience.
Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards represents Maryland’s 4th Congressional District, comprising portions of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties. She was sworn in after a special election to become a member of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 110th Congress in June 2008, becoming the first African American woman to represent Maryland in Congress. She began her first full-term in the 111th Congress in 2009.
Since 2012, she has served as Ranking Member for the United States House Science Subcommittee on Space. She has been involved in helping to draft HR 4412 – the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Authorization Act of 2014, which just passed the House of Representatives. She has also served on the Science committee for multiple terms. Congresswoman Edwards has been a huge advocate for linking STEM education and Space Exploration. She has enjoyed a diverse career as a nonprofit public interest advocate and has worked for Lockheed Corporation at the Goddard Space Flight Center on the SpaceLab program.
