Explore Space, Sustain Earth
Earth Day 2016 comes on the heels of exciting achievements in the commercial space industry in the form of reusable technology. Today, we must look up in order to protect what is beneath our feet. The goal of exploring space is not to leave our fragile planet behind, but rather to use what we learn exploring the stars and supporting life in harsh, previously lifeless environments to sustain Earth.
“We need to and can align the Space Frontier Foundation’s goals for the sustainability of our planet and solar system with space exploration – we see it as a natural fit,” said Hannah Kerner, executive director of the Space Frontier Foundation. “We will take a leadership position on this topic and advance policies, partnerships and ideas to further this goal.”
Settlement of other planets and exploration will enable humanity to protect Earth. As human settlement of space becomes inevitable, we will remain focused on this environmental stewardship when it comes to exploring the stars and beyond.
The Space Frontier Foundation is dedicated to the protection of the Earth and the future of humans living and working in space. As a demonstration of our commitment to these efforts, this year, we will partner with leading environmental organizations to look at sustainable ways to explore the solar system and sustain Earth.
Happy Earth Day!
