The next installment of the popular TEDxMidTownNY speaker series will take place on Tuesday, May 9th, 2011 from 6-9 pm at the Hotel Beacon in New York City. With the theme “Piercing the Veil,” the focus of the event is to peel back the clouds of Jupiter and discuss the science we find, as well as the important role that art plays in our discovery of the physical universe. Cosponsored by the Space Frontier Foundation (SFF) and NASA, this event will host speakers Scott Bolden, Chief Scientist for NASA’s upcoming Juno Mission, and photographer, writer, and filmmaker Michael Benson. The book that is the cornerstone of the Space Frontier Foundation philosophy is being gifted to schools at no cost by the Foundation and the Students for the Exploration of Space. The High Frontier Distribution Project aims to provide a copy of The High Frontier: Human Colonies in Space by Dr. Gerard K. O’Neill to all high school and university libraries that currently don’t have a copy. In distributing it to schools, it is hoped that today’s youth will be inspired to become aerospace engineers and scientists and realize the better future in space described.

The Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) have sent an open letter to President Obama and the U.S. Congress, requesting funding support for NASA initiatives that embrace NewSpace opportunities.
